Maritime Institute to Build Pool in Honour of Late Student

The Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) will be offering mandatory swimming lessons to its seafaring students in a soon-to-be-constructed swimming pool to be built in memory of a student who drowned in October this year.
Executive Director of the CMI, Fritz Pinnock, who made the disclosure while addressing graduates at this year’s Presentation of Graduands and Awards exercise at the Jamaica Conference Centre last Thursday (November 22) said that the pool would be named in honour of the late Aundre Collins.
The pool will also be used to facilitate swimming lessons for fishers who are being trained by the CMI under a partnership arrangement with Food for the Poor to provide swimming and fishing technology training to fishers drawn from across the island.
Collins, an 18-year old Phase 1 Engineering student, who is a past student of Manchester High School drowned while swimming at Port Royal in October.
