Major Project to Correct Fault on Causeway Leg of Highway 2000

A major project is to begin on May 17, 2010, to correct a long standing structural fault on the Causeway leg of the Highway 2000 network. The faulty roadway is close to the Port of Kingston, and has been a source of discomfort to motorists for quite some time.
Transport and Works Minister, Mike Henry, in announcing the date for the project to begin, said the cost would be borne by the operators of the toll network and the work will be done by international French contractors Bouygues. The minister said it would be a comprehensive rehabilitation job, which would involve some inconveniences to motorists. He said further details of the project, including the arrangements to minimise the inconvenience, would be revealed ahead of the commencement date.
The minister said users of the roadway had long been complaining about the problem, which he had assured would be comprehensively addressed. He said extensive background work by the Toll Authority had produced the pending rehabilitation project, which was intended to completely eradicate the existing problem.
“I promised action on the matter and the delivery of this promise is on the horizon,” outlined Minister Henry. “The work will be thorough and comprehensive, with all the relevant details to be outlined prior to the commencement date.”
He especially thanked the people of Portmore for their “patience in awaiting the correction of the fault, which they have endured for quite some time.”
