The presentations were made during the 50th Anniversary Awards Ceremony of the CCSAWP held on Sunday (November 13) at Melia Braco Resort in Trelawny.

Among the long-serving farmworkers honoured are Larkland Pearce for 47 years; Rupert Douglas, 45 years; Reginald Cowan, 44 years; and Richard Brown, 42 years.

The farms/employers recognised included Abe Epp and Family Inc., and H.W. Smith Holdings for 50 years; Fortedale Farms, 49 years; G.H. Lambe and Son Ltd, 48 yrs.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Colette Roberts Risden, who addressed the function, said that the CCSAWP has contributed significantly to the social and economic development of Jamaica and the entire Caribbean region.

“I wish to thank most sincerely, our partners, the High Commission of Canada and Canadian authorities for providing the Jamaican people participating in the programme with a tremendous level of professional and dedicated service, for which we, as a Ministry and across the region, are very grateful,” she said.

She noted that the overseas employers and Canadian and Jamaican authorities have ensured that the standards are maintained in order to “uphold the integrity and efficiency of the greatest partnership to have emerged in the past 50 years between Jamaica and Canada”.

The awards ceremony is part of the CCSAWP’s 2016 Review Meeting being held from November 13-17.

The meeting is being attended by Canadian employers and government officials, ministers of labour from Caribbean states, and liaison officers.

It will provide the opportunity for participants in the farm-work programme to review its operations, the functioning of existing employment agreements, and improve responsiveness among stakeholders.
