Legislation to Address Maintenance of Complexes

The Full Story

Legislation is being prepared to govern the maintenance and management of gated communities, town house complexes, and commercial developments.

“This legislation will be similar to the recently enacted amendments to the Strata Titles Act, which governs the management of strata properties,” said Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Robert Pickersgill.

He was speaking on Wednesday, June 26, during his contribution to the 2013/2014 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.

Mr. Pickersgill also informed that the Ministry is working on policy to address the maximum size of studios.

He said it has been observed that a number of applications are being made by owners and developers to develop and construct “super studios”, which are later converted into additional bedrooms, larger apartments, or for other uses.

“This practice has impacted on the social and physical infrastructure by the increase of residential density for which planning permission was not given,” Mr. Pickersgill said.
