Launch of Second Phase of Heritage Trail March 27

March 23, 2010

The Full Story

The Spanish Foundation of Jamaica (SPFJ) will, on Saturday, March 27, launch the second phase of the Jamaica Heritage Trail Project.
In 2008, the SPFJ launched the first phase of the project, in collaboration with the Jamaica National Heritage Trust and the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), which has seen the erection and unveiling of some 11 signboards across the island, in several heritage and resort areas, such as New Seville, Runaway Bay, Montego Bay and Spanish Town.
The launch for the second phase of the project will be held at the RIU Hotel in Ocho Rios, and should see the unveiling of newly installed signboards for Rio Bueno and Mammee Bay.
A recent press release from the SPFJ informs that, “this new set of signboards will highlight the historical significance of these particular sites in the parishes of Trelawny and St. Ann. They are intended to draw attention to sites of particular historical or tourism interest, creating a Heritage Trail that celebrates Jamaica’s rich history.”
The Foundation, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, has committed to the development of an incipient Cultural Tourism in Jamaica, through the promotion of the ‘Heritage Trail’.
The initiative was developed with the intention of encouraging visitors and locals to experience the diverse beauty of Jamaica and learn about its history.
