Labour Ministry to Develop Registry of Skilled Workers

State Minister for Labour and Social Security, Andrew Gallimore, will lead an initiative to develop a Skills Bank that will serve as a registry of skilled and certified workers across the island.
Labour and Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles, made the disclosure during a meeting with members of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) on Thursday (Sept. 20), at the organization’s Hope Boulevard headquarters in Kingston. Mr. Charles said that the data bank, which will be accessible via the Ministry’s website, will enable local and overseas-based employers to readily find workers, and also assist qualified workers to find employment. He noted that here are many Jamaicans abroad “who can advise us of their availability and that will go on the Skills Bank website.”
Employers, who identify workers via the website, can contact the Permanent Secretary in the Labour Ministry, who will then inform the workers, and thus facilitate the needs of both worker and employer.
