The Full Story

The St. Ann Labour Day Parish Committee has so far identified a total of 99 projects.”Forty nine projects have been registered, with an additional 50 drain cleaning projects being organized through the St. Ann Parish Council,” St. Ann Parish Disaster Co-ordinator, Alvin Clarke told JIS News.
He is appealing to the residents of the parish to support the work plans of the Committee and volunteer to work on Labour Day, Monday, May 23.
Mr. Clarke pointed out that the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), along with agencies such as the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), have been playing a vital role in the planning of Labour Day activities, which would be carried out under the theme: ‘Prepare for Disaster, Recover faster’.
“All of our projects have been identified in keeping with the theme for Labour Day. These projects will include activities such as the planting of trees, cleaning of drains and shelter repairs, and we are expecting to have a successful day,” he said.
Mr. Clarke told JIS News that the parish project would be the cleaning of the major drain in the Cave Valley community.
“Recently, we had flooding in Cave Valley and this is one disaster that we would not like to happen again, so we are going to be taking all the necessary actions to try and prevent this,” he said.
