Kingsvale Police Station in Hanover to be Renovated

Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, says more than $7 million will be spent to renovate the Kingsvale Police Station in Hanover.

Speaking to JIS News during a tour of the facility on November 18, the Minister explained that the initiative forms part of activities being undertaken for Local Government Month in November.

“The theme for Local Government Month speaks about securing safe and better communities, and we decided to enhance the theme by taking on a police station in a very (remote) rural community. We chose this one to signal what the community involvement through the Ministry and the security force is all about,” he explained.

Among the improvements to be made are repair of the kitchen to include the installation of cupboards; painting of the building; installation of new fixtures; tiling of the bathroom; and installation of a generator and a 1,000-gallon water tank. The recreational area will also be furnished with a couch and television set.

The Minister also announced that the roads leading to the police station, and the holding area for prisoners will be repaired as part of the overall project, which is expected to be completed by the first week in December. This, he said, will further enhance community development.

“This is a part of the community drive, the community aspect of Local Government Month and… part of our community contribution to the security force,” he noted.

The Minister lauded the partnership with the residents, the Social Development Commission (SDC) and the Hanover Municipal Corporation in the execution of the project.

Meanwhile, he informed that the Blenheim Community Centre and the road leading to the birthplace of Sir Alexander Bustamante will be repaired, in addition to the construction work that is ongoing at the Hanover infirmary.
