The Full Story

Cabinet has approved a US$1,204,972.00 contract to CARGOTEC, USA Incorporation for the supply and commissioning of two reach stackers for the Kingston Container Terminal.
Making the disclosure at on Wednesday November 17 post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunications and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz said that the contract will also include a credit of US$6,000.00 for spare parts.
He noted that the Kingston Container Terminal currently has no equipment with the capability of transporting containers with dimensions exceeding a standard container internal dimension or “out of gauge cargo”.
“There has been an increasing number in these out of gauge cargo and the terminal had to hire a reach stacker at a cost of $3.3 million a month. The purchase of the two reach stackers will greatly enhance efficiency at the terminal,” he said.
CARGOTEC USA INC. is an Industrial Machinery and Equipment Merchant Wholesalers company located in Monclova, Ohio.
A reach stacker is one of the most flexible handling solutions whether to operate a small terminal or a medium-sized port. Reach stackers are able to transport a container over short distances very quickly and pile them in various rows depending on its access.
