Kingston Container Terminal to get Straddle Carriers

April 14, 2004

The Full Story

Cabinet has approved the procurement of six straddle carriers at a cost of US$3.9 million by the Port Authority of Jamaica for the Kingston Container Terminal.
The equipment will be bought from Kalmar Industries OY AD of Finland, which last year also supplied 12 units for the Terminal. The units to be acquired are 2003 models, which will conform to the units already in place at the Terminal.
The additional units are intended to facilitate more convenient and lower cost maintenance by saving 10,000 man-hours in maintenance time thereby creating significant cost savings in the operations of the Terminal.
