The Full Story

With the promoters of Reggae Sumfest 2009 declaring a record attendance this year, one of the festival’s main sponsors, The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), says it is satisfied with the returns from the part it has played in sponsoring the event.
Addressing a Reggae Sumfest Press Conference, at the Iberostar Hotel in Lilliput, St. James, on Friday (July 24), Deputy Director of Tourism, David Shields, stated that the JTB has been involved with the event since its inception and that, “without failing we have been delighted at the returns we have had from our participation in the event.”
He expressed the view that Reggae Sumfest is not just a music festival, but also represents Jamaicans, as a people, as well as a being significant part of the marketing promotion of the JTB.
“It (Reggae Sumfest) is where we can say to the world that we are an exciting people; we can celebrate our music and we share it with the rest of the world,” he said.
He saluted the organisers, adding that the JTB will continue to use the event as an important plank in marketing Jamaica to the rest of the world.
Producers Sumerfest Productions’ director, Godfrey Dyer, said that the dates for the 2010 show have already been decided. He announced July 18-24, 2010 as the dates for the 18th staging of the festival.
He commended the Montego Bay business community, and the media, for supporting the event.
