Journalists for CWC to Receive Special Gift Bags

The Full Story

With more than 300 journalists expected in the island next month for the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) is pulling out all the stops to ensure that their visit to the island is a memorable one.
The board is assembling 300 to 500 special gift bags containing items such as cricket hats, Jamaica’s famous Appleton rum and coffee among other goodies, which will be presented to the journalists on arrival at Norman Manley and Sangster International airports.
“In order that their visit to Jamaica is one that is memorable and special, we wanted to give them a true Jamaican welcome,” said Janice Allen, Destination Marketing Manager at the JTB.
She noted that the visit of the journalists provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase Jamaica. “We want to make sure that they taste and experience Jamaica as much as we could package. Sure, we cannot package all the rivers and beauty, but we can do our best to give them a sample of what Jamaica is, so we are putting together these bags with items that they can use throughout their time here in Jamaica,” she continued.
Information on Jamaica and in particular, Kingston and Montego Bay has also been included in the gift bag and these are in the form of brochures and a sales DVD. “We want them to have information at their fingertips and also be in contact with the board throughout their time here. We are at their service really,” Ms. Allen said. She praised the private sector for their support in the venture.
Ideally, the JTB wanted to present gift bags to the thousands of people, who are expected to visit Jamaica during the event, but limited funding did not allow. However, Ms. Allen said that the board would endeavour to reach everybody coming for the event with a special Jamaican welcome.
