JIS-TV Programmes on Local Channels in South Florida

Jamaicans in South Florida are now able to view programmes of national interest about their homeland on local television channels in Dade and Broward counties.
Produced by the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) in Kingston, the programmes are aired weekdays at 7:30 p.m. on COMCAST TV in both counties – Channel 19 in Dade, and Channel 76 or 79 in Broward.
The programmes are informative and entertaining and cover a wide range of subjects looking at positive developments in the Jamaican economy as well as the creativity and innovation of Jamaicans. Features on the nation’s rich history and culture are also part of the regular programme schedule.
Television features produced by the JIS have been part of the regular programming on COMCAST TV since last February.
Local viewing of the JIS productions in South Florida was jointly co-ordinated by Miami-based promotions consultant, Don Daly of CRI Communications and Althea Buchanan, Manager, JIS Television in Kingston, along with a technical and production team at COMCAST.
Mr. Daly told JIS News that the programming in South Florida was all encompassing and looked at all aspects of life in Jamaica.
Almost 350,000 Jamaican nationals form part of the 600,000 English speaking population in the tri-county area of South Florida – Dade, Broward and Palm Beach.
Regarding expansion to other large Jamaican populated communities in the Southeast USA, Mr. Daly noted as the need arose, those areas would be addressed.
