The Full Story

The Jamaica Information Service (JIS) copped the ‘Best Booth’ award at the Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF) Annual Business and Workplace Convention and Exposition held from May 2 to 5 in St. Ann.

The agency emerged the victor on Saturday’s (May 4) closing session of the event, earning bragging rights over the more than 10 corporate and public sector entities, who were vying for the coveted trophy, including last year’s winner BPM Financial.

Other booth holders were National Housing Trust (NHT), HEART/NTA, CEMEX, Jamaica Foundation for Lifelong Learning (JFLL), Jamaica Productivity Centre, L’Oreal, Kia Motors, Negril Estates, Jamaica Observer, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. BPM Financial received the award for Most Creative.

The booths were judged based on their innovativeness; use of product images and visuals in booth design; staff enthusiasm, friendliness and interaction with visitors; and overall appearance.

“The team was confident that this year we would win the trophy. Strategic thinking was at work as the team conceptualised the display,” said an elated JIS Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Donna-Marie Rowe.

“It is indeed an honour for the JIS to be recognised by JEF for the high quality output that was on display. We showcased the Government’s strategic priorities in terms of fiscal prudence, job creation, improved security, human capital, and social inclusion,” she stated.

The CEO pointed out that as the agency celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the display also showcased the growth of the agency and the technology used over the years, beginning in the 1960s, to produce the work for which the agency has become known and trusted.

The CEO said she is proud of the award, as it is in recognition of the agency’s role in building nationalism by effectively disseminating information about Jamaica, the Government and the people.

Canadian Marketing and Advertising Consultant, Michel Neray, who was one of the judges, said the JIS’ booth was lively, vibrant and informative.

He noted that he found the hosts to be engaging and proud of their heritage and having visited the booth, “I too wanted to become a Jamaican”.

Mrs. Rowe spoke of the opportunities, which were available for participants of the JEF Convention. For the JIS, she said, it provided an excellent vehicle for prospective clients to be better informed about its services.

The JEF Convention, which is in its 31st year, was held under the theme: ‘Energise for action…our cause…our call’.

Speakers were drawn from the public and private sectors as well as overseas corporate entities. They explored such topics as: ‘How transformational coaching improves the way leaders communicate’; ‘How to prepare an organisation to win, based on VALUE, not price’; ‘What’s new with NIS? How has it been working and what will change bring?’ and ‘Global issues and international trade’.
