JBDC Showcases Business Expo on April 2

The Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC) will host its first one-day small business exposition at the Hilton Kingston Hotel on April 2. The event is part of the JBDC’s continued thrust to facilitate the sustainable development of micro and small enterprises in Jamaica.
Dubbed ‘Today’s Business for Tomorrow’s Growth’, the exposition will focus on new regulations, technology, laws and policy development that will impact on the sector.
Chief Executive Officer of the JBDC, Valerie Veira told JIS News that the Expo will focus on particular business segments with the staging of seminars throughout the day.
“We will have booths with our exhibitors mainly from the private sector who will present their information and demystify their offerings to the client group,” Ms. Veira said.
She added that public sector agencies such as the Bureau of Standards and the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) will be in attendance to “explain the importance of utilizing their service and how critical it is for them to be involved in the sustainability of their business.”
Topics to be explored include: Writing a successful business plan; Identifying business ideas; technology in small business and marketing a small business from a big business perspective.
The Chief Executive Officer urged persons to participate in the initiative noting that “it is about learning how to do things right and move from doing a ‘thing’ to doing business. It is occasions like this that help them to sharpen those tools and understand what kind of support system is in place to assist them,” she pointed out. Major participating stakeholders for the event will be Scotia Small Business Banking and the Private Sector Development Programme (PSDP). The Expo will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is free of cost.
