JBDC Continues to Focus on Apparel Industry

June 9, 2007

The Full Story

The Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC) will continue initiatives to modernize the country’s apparel and fashion industry, through networking with important stakeholders.
As contained in a Ministry Paper tabled in the House of Representatives earlier this week by Minister of Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce, Phillip Paulwell, the JBDC will also use its annual conference to bring focus to the industry.
The conference provides a medium through which clients can showcase their products and services, and for new and existing entrepreneurs to be informed about opportunities within targeted sectors.
In the meantime, the agency will continue to provide technical assistance to clients within the industry through site visits and training workshops.
A major objective for the fiscal year is to revitalize the knitting products sector, through the introduction of new product lines and techniques for producing items in commercially viable quantities.
The Ministry Paper also revealed that the JBDC has been requested by the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCO), to assist in the preparation of a sustainable growth plan for the country’s craft markets.
The JBDC will provide strategic and operational plans for these markets to include improving product offerings through new themes, activities and events; upgrading of facilities to ensure that they are equipped with all the necessary amenities; and providing training for industry participants.
