Over 300 exhibitors are expected to participate in this week-end’s Denbigh Industrial & Agricultural Show 2010, being staged by the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) in association with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, at Denbigh, Clarendon.

“We are expecting a fantastic show over this Emancipation week-end,” says JAS first vice-president and chairman of the show’s organizing committee, Senator Norman Grant.
“We expect visitors from Mexico, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and the United States, as well as our special guest, Director General of the Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Victor M, Villalobos,” Senator Grant told JIS News.
Mr. Villalobos is expected to present Agri-Business Awards, including the Special Youth Award for Agro-Processing, sponsored by IICA, on Saturday afternoon.
Senator Grant noted that the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) will launch a special loan programme on Sunday, and the University of the West Indies (UWI) will have a major display of its research links with agriculture.
There will also be lots of entertainment featuring Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) top popular music winners Saturday night; the Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza on Sunday night, featuring the top acts in this year’s JCDC Gospel Finals; and the closing show featuring the Digicel Rising Stars Finalists on Monday night.
Senator Grant said that other highlights of the show will include: the Youth in Agriculture competition and the Farm Queen Coronation Show on Saturday; Rural Agricultural Development Authority’s (RADA) 20th anniversary celebration, and selection of the Champion and Young Champion Farmer on Sunday; Livestock Parade and Presentations and the Presentation of Trophies for Agriculture and Horticulture, as well as Digicel’s main activities on Monday.
Guest speakers will be; the Governor General, the His Excellency, the Most Hon Sir Patrick Allen, on Sunday; Prime Minister, the Hon Bruce Golding, on Monday; and the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon Christopher Tufton, on Saturday. The Leader of the Opposition, the Most Hon Portia Simpson Miller, will be special guest on Sunday.
