Japan/CARICOM Economic Mission to Jamaica

There will be a Japan/CARICOM Economic Mission in Jamaica from Wednesday, November 23, to Friday, November 25.

While here, the 14-member-team from Japan which consists of Government officials; Embassy staff here in Jamaica, including the Japanese Ambassador, HE Hiroshi Yamaguchi and Japanese Private Sector officials will engage in activities aimed at highlighting areas for economic collaboration and Japanese investment.

These areas include the exploration and development of natural resources such as natural gas and metals; power generation and transmission; infrastructural development and information and communications technology.

The Economic Mission will tour the Kingston Container Terminal, the Caymanas Estates (Caymanas Economic Zone), Port Esquivel, Old Harbour and the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) facilities. In addition, they will be presented with Jamaican investment opportunities by JAMPRO.

The Mission is an outcome of the Japan/CARICOM Joint Commission held in Tokyo in September, 2010 and also the official visit to Japan of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, the Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh.

The Jamaican leg of the Mission follows the Japanese team's visit to Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) (November 20-23) Whilst there, they would have been participants in the Port-of-Spain hosted CARICOM/Japan Business Seminar on Tuesday, November 22. At this seminar, the 12 CARICOM member states which will not be visited, will have the opportunity to present their country’s investment opportunities to the Japanese.

The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will also be presenters at the seminar.
