JAMPRO Joins Guild to Promote Island as Film Location

Jamaica is hoping to enhance its status as a film location though JAMPRO/Jamaica Film Commission’s affiliate membership in the United Kingdom based Guild of Location Managers.
Chairman of the Guild, Jane Sones told JIS News that members will help to spread the word about Jamaica as a choice film location.
“By working with us and by getting to meet more people, the news will circulate in the industry about Jamaica. The fact that it is easy to take a project there, that it is safe to go there and that there is such a variety of locations, mean that you can afford to do a lot of stuff there,” she said.
The Chairman was speaking to JIS News during a reception, jointly hosted by the Jampro London office and the Guild this week.
JAMPRO’s European Regional Manager, Laurence Jones said that Jamaica was a choice destination for film projects.
“Jamaica not only has the talent required for your productions, but also a diverse landscape with picture perfect appeal and a range of settings that can replicate the jungles of Rwanda,” Mr. Jones said.
He also outlined some of the services offered and the incentives that are available to film makers in Jamaica, noting that last financial year, the film industry generated just under $300 million.
The Guild of Location Managers is a non-profit organisation of professional location managers working in the film, stills, television, advertising and event industries. It was formed some 20 years ago to maintain standards with regards to filming on location. The Guild is recognised by the UK Film Council and regional film commissions throughout Britain.
