The Full Story
Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, is encouraging citizens to register their projects for Labour Day, which will be observed on May 23 under the theme ‘Ramp it up… Fix it up’.
Minister Grange, who chairs the National Labour Day Planning Committee, made the appeal while addressing a JIS Think Tank on Tuesday (May 15).
She said communities and individuals are being encouraged to register their planned activity for the day, even if it falls outside of the areas of national focus.
This year’s Labour Day is centred on health and education and involves the upgrading of health centres and the building of wheelchair ramps at schools to facilitate increased access to these facilities by physically challenged persons.
“The fact that you are beautifying, you are volunteering, you are doing something to help your community, and you are participating, register your projects and be part of history,” Ms. Grange said.
The two Labour Day projects, which will receive national focus this year, are the St Ann’s Bay Infant School in St Ann, and Cumberland Health Centre in St Catherine.
Persons can register their projects at the Ministry’s website, www.mcges.gov.jm, or the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) www.jis.gov.jm or email the information to labourday@mcges.gov.jm.
