August 20, 2007

The Full Story

In response to the tremendous outpouring of concern for Jamaicans at home by those in the Diaspora, Consul General to New York, Dr. Basil Bryan, has called a meeting of the New York Diaspora community for Wednesday (Aug. 22).
The meeting will take place in the Consulate’s conference room starting at 6:00 pm.
Dr. Bryan said that the meeting will discuss relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Dean, which affected the island on Sunday (Aug. 19).
He said that even as the government and related agencies are undertaking an assessment of the damage, the meeting will address the most pressing and urgent needs. “I look forward to your attendance and participation in order to work in a united effort as a community of purpose,” Dr. Bryan said.
In the meantime, he announced that a Jamaican Hurricane Dean Relief Fund 2007 has been set up to facilitate monetary contributions.
