Jamaicans in Florida Urged to Contribute to Tsunami Relief

Consul General to Miami, Ricardo Allicock is appealing to Jamaicans in Florida, to continue contributions to the Tsunami Relief Fund, which was launched to assist in the recovery efforts in countries in Asia and Africa, which were impacted by the disaster.
Deposits can be made to the Jamaica Consulate Tsunami Relief Fund at any branch of Wachovia Bank, account number 2000023599415. Persons can also mail cheques or money orders to the Jamaica Consulate General at 25 SE Second Avenue – Suite 842, Miami, Florida 33131.
Following the disaster, considered the worst in recent history, Prime Minister, P.J. Patterson called on diplomatic representatives at the overseas missions to coordinate contributions from nationals living abroad, who were interested in assisting in the recovery effort.
The Prime Minister appealed to Jamaicans both at home and in the Diaspora “to give generously as this truly is a global effort”.
The funds will be turned over to the Permanent Representative to the United Nations for disbursement through the United Nations Disaster Committee. The Jamaican government has made an initial contribution of $15 million to the international relief fund.
A number of corporate, civic and religious organizations in Jamaica and abroad, have already embarked on several collection drives to help victims of the disaster.
