Jamaicans in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States, have planned one week of events to celebrate the country’s 46th anniversary of independence.
The activities will commence on Sunday, August 3 with a Thanksgiving Service at the Hillside Presbyterian Church, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Guest Preacher will be Deacon Ronald Thwaites and the Moderator will be Reverend Dr. Winton Lawson, Pastor of Hillside Presbyterian Church.
On Independence Day, Wednesday, August 6, a cultural extravaganza and book launch will take place at the Timothy Methodist Church hall. Radio personality, Beverley Anderson-Manley will launch her book – ‘Manley Memoirs.’ This will be followed by a cultural concert.
On Saturday, August 9, the Atlanta-Jamaica Association will stage its annual Independence Ball commencing at 7:30 p.m., at the Georgia International Convention Centre. Guest speaker will be Pearnel Charles, Minister of Labour and Social Security.
The week of activities will end on Sunday, August 10 with the staging of a Jamaica Day at Exchange Park.The activities are being co-ordinated by the Union of Jamaican Organizations in Atlanta, chaired by Vin Martin, Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Atlanta.
