Jamaicans honoured at Veterans Day concert

Jamaican nationals, who served in the United States’ armed forces, were recognised in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (November 10) as the nation marked Veterans Day.
The Veterans National Medical Musical Group (VA-NMMG) paid tribute to ex-service men and women from Jamaica and 12 other countries, at its annual Veterans Day concert held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.
The symphony orchestra and chorale of more than 200 medical practitioners from across the US performed at the two-hour concert, which was held under the theme: ‘Welcome Home Veterans’.
In his brief address, Secretary General of the VA-NMMG, Craig Duehing, told the large audience that Jamaica was being acknowledged for the tremendous contribution and sacrifice made by its ex-service men in fighting for the freedom that Americans now enjoy.
“This concert was just one of the ways to show our appreciation to them,” said
Mr. Duehing, adding that the VA-NMMG hopes to be able to perform in Jamaica in the future.
Jamaicans in attendance said they were honoured at the recognition given to the country’s ex-service men and women and praised the group of doctors and healthcare workers, who make up the Symphony and Chorale, for providing a remarkable musical experience at the Veterans Day concert.
The VA-NMMG is a non-profit organisation and is the largest medical musical group in the United States. Its mission is to perform music with a message of inspiration, healing and national unity.
