Jamaican Writer Shortlisted for Commonwealth Writers’ Prize

For the second year running, the first book by a Jamaican writer has been short listed in the Caribbean/Canada region of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize.
The novel, ‘The Fear of Stones’ by Kei Miller, is one of six books shorted listed for Best First Book in this year’s competition. Last year, Marlon James’ ‘John Crow’s Devil’ was also short-listed in this category.
Winners of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize will be announced in Jamaica on May 27 at the Calabash International Literary Festival, which will be held in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth from Friday, May 25 to Sunday, May 27.
An annul initiative of the Commonwealth Foundation, the award rewards the best Commonwealth fiction written in English, by both established and new writers. The prize has become an increasingly valued and sought-after award for fiction.
