Jamaican Students to Participate in UN Schools Conference

Thirty-six Jamaicans are among a large delegation of students, who will be attending the annual United Nations International Schools (UNIS) Conference at the UN headquarters in New York from March 3 to 4.The Jamaican students are members of the junior chapter of the UN Association of Jamaica and are participating in the conference for the second year. They will be accompanied by seven teachers.
Under the theme: ‘Global Health – Rights and Responsibilities in the 21st Century’, this year’s conference will place special emphasis on the impact of the environment, education, globalization and health care on the world population.
The conference will be held in the UN General Assembly Hall, giving the student delegates a chance to see the UN model at work. The two-day meeting is expected to provide the students with critical skills in conflict resolution and bring general awareness of world events.
While in New York, the Jamaican delegation will meet with members of Jamaica’s Permanent Mission to the UN, the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) and lunch with a group of Jamaican workers at the UN.
The conference opens at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday inside the UN General Assembly Hall.
