Jamaican Culture on Display in Baltimore this Weekend

In an effort to showcase Jamaican culture in Baltimore, USA, the Jamaica Association of Maryland will stage a three-day Reggae Festival at Clifton Park from August 18 to 20.
The festival will feature music, food, dance, art and craft, and Jamaican products. Over the three days, headlining the music package will be Strikers Possie, Carl Malcolm & The Positive Vibrations, Oasis Band, Storm Reggae Band, and Image Band.
According to the President of the Jamaica Association of Maryland, Ricardo Nugent, the main reason for the staging of the festival is to showcase Jamaica’s culture and to celebrate Jamaica’s Independence and Emancipation. He said that his Association’s aim is to promote and preserve the Jamaican culture to give the young Jamaicans living in Baltimore, and friends of Jamaica, an opportunity to see Jamaica’s culture on display.
The event is a family oriented affair and will commence on Friday night, dancehall night. Saturday and Sunday are dedicated to the family. A number of Jamaican companies will be on display, including Red Stripe, GraceKennedy, Air Jamaica, E&D Sales, among others.
Just over 25,000 Jamaicans reside in Baltimore.
