Jamaican Community in Atlanta to Assist Guyana

The Jamaican community in Atlanta is to assist Guyana as a result of the recent flooding which affected certain areas of that country.
This was disclosed by Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Atlanta, Vin Martin at a meeting with representatives from the Guyanese community in Atlanta.
Heading the delegation was Guyana’s Honorary Trade Representative to Atlanta, Neilson O. Wray; former President of the Guyana Association of Georgia, Dawn Simmonds and Hazel Martin, wife of Mr. Martin, who is from Guyana.
Mr. Martin told the delegation that he was committed in rallying the support of the Jamaican and the Caribbean community in Atlanta to assist the Guyanese in their time of need.
He pointed out that the Guyanese community in Atlanta supported Jamaica during Hurricane Ivan and it was only fitting that “we support Guyana in this their time of need”.
Mr. Martin said he would be working with the Guyanese community to organize a telethon, which would involve the Caribbean radio stations. The telethon would last for three days and all funds and items would be donated to Guyana.
In his response, Mr. Wray said a Task Force has been set up in Atlanta to co-ordinate the local relief efforts. The team, he said, would work in various ways to collect as much items and money needed to provide relief to those most seriously affected.
Mr. Wray noted that Mrs. Simmonds was spearheading the immediate and extended relief activities in Atlanta.
