The Full Story

Jamaican-born New York State Assemblyman, N. Nick Perry is planning to run for a seat in the United States (US) Congress in 2007. Mr. Perry made the announcement at his inauguration ceremony, held at the International Pentecostal City Mission Church, Brooklyn, on January 8.
A Democrat, he was re-elected last November to a seventh consecutive two-year term as Assemblyman for the Brooklyn 58 District.
“I have already registered with the Federal Elections Commission and is raising money (so as) to be ready as is God’s will. I believe that if it’s God’s will, everything will fall right into place. I will be ready to be that vessel through which God can manifest his will,” Mr. Perry told the capacity audience.
Shortly after taking the Oath of Office, Assemblyman Perry said that he was thrilled and truly honoured for the level of trust that his constituents have again placed in him. “I humbly accept this duty and thank you for putting your trust in me. With God’s help, I will serve you completely and to the very best of my ability,” he said.
Mr. Perry announced a US$10,000.00 scholarship in honour of the late Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to be elected to the US Congress and the first woman to run for President of the US.
Dr. Basil K. Bryan, Consul General of Jamaica to New York and Chair of the Caribbean Consular Corps, who brought greetings, lauded Assemblyman Perry for his years of service to the community and the political arena.
Also attending the ceremony were Consuls General from Barbados, Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines; C. Virginia Fields, Manhattan Borough President; Marty Markowitz; Brooklyn Borough President, and Yvonne Graham, Deputy Borough President for Brooklyn.
