Jamaica Organisation of New Jersey Hosts Awards Function

Distinguished Educator, Dr. Edison O. Jackson, President of the Medgar Evers College (Brooklyn) of the City University of New York (CUNY), will deliver the keynote address at the Sixth Annual Award of Excellence for the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JON-J).
The event will take place on Saturday, October 28, at 8:00 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Consul-General of Jamaica to New York, Dr. Basil K. Bryan, who will serve as patron of the ceremony, will hand out awards to a number of individuals who are being recognized for outstanding commitment to community service, civic activities, education and leadership, medicine and sports.
President of JON-J, Linval James told JIS News that this year’s awardees had left their indelible mark on the Caribbean region and the world.
“Individually and as a group, these awardees signify the progress made during the 20th Century and represent some of the significant contributions made by the Diaspora,” he added.
The evening’s programme will also recognize Jamaica’s 44th anniversary as an independent nation, and Jamaican folklore.
