Jamaica has met Obligations under Host Venue Agreement

Jamaica has successfully fulfilled its obligations in terms of providing accommodation for teams, officials, media and sponsors expected in the island for the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007.
Executive Director of the Jamaica Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Robert Bryan, said that some 1,100 rooms have been provided for these categories of persons, which is part of the country’s obligations under the Host Venue Agreement (HVA).
“All of Jamaica’s requirements for accommodation have been fully met and at this point in time, there is no issue at all in Jamaica concerning accommodation in terms of our official requirements for the team, officials, the media and sponsors,” he told journalists at a recent press conference at the offices of the Jamaica LOC in Kingston.
“We are not aware (of any problem). We are in close contact with our tourism officials that there are no issues at all in respect to accommodations in the country,” he stressed.
Last year, the government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture, made special concessions by waiving the tax on rooms for the media and this has facilitated a lowering of room rate for the estimated 300 to 500 journalists expected in the island to cover what will be the largest spectacle to ever take place in the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) is assembling 300 to 500 special gift bags containing items such as cricket hats, Jamaica’s famous Appleton rum, coffee, among other goodies, which will be presented to the journalists on arrival at the airports.
