The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) has expanded its Emergency Medical Services (EMS), to offer a range of first responder services at the station level.
“Members of the public can now walk in the station at any time and access services, such as basic burn and wound care, blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, general first aid and advice on minor trauma incidents,” Chairman of the JFB Board of Directors, Mr. Jalil Dabdoub Jr., announced at the handing over of three new fire trucks, at the York Park Fire Station, in Kingston, on February 4.
He said expansion of the EMS is part of the Brigade’s continued drive to modernize the services to the public and build trusting relationships with the people.
In addition to the new services, the JFB responds to road traffic accidents, life threatening trauma, cardiovascular emergencies, unconscious persons, acute respiratory distress, severe bleeding, obstetric emergency and any other medical condition that is life threatening and requires emergency action that is within the scope of the Emergency Medical Technicians.
Mr. Dabdoub Jr. added that the JFB is on its way to becoming a first world agency, noting that the first class support provided to fire victims, the addition of the new fire trucks, the current expansion of the EMS and the Bush Fire Management Education Programme, which is a programme to educate people of other options apart from burning, are all indicators of this objective.
The Chairman commended Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Noel Arscott, and his team for their continued support to the Brigade over the years. He said the support from the Ministry has helped the agency to improve its administrative services.
