Photo: The need for the Governors to have a permanent place to live in Britain’s colonies brought about King’s House. The official residence of Governors of Jamaica has always been called King’s House even during the reign of Queens. The location of King’s House changed three times. It moved from its location in Port Royal in 1690 to Spanish Town in 1762, the former capital and finally to Kingston in 1872.
