JADCO, UWI Collaborate on Anti-Doping Seminar

Kingston, September 2, 2010 – The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Honourable Olivia Grange, MP has announced that the the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) have agreed to collaborate in the staging of an anti-doping seminar at the Mona Campus on September 18.
The decision was made today (Thursday) at a meeting involving Minister Grange and representatives of the UWI and JADCO. The meeting discussed how both entities would collaborate to ensure that the seminar is a success.
Minister Grange said:”I am pleased that the University decided to organise this seminar and I am very happy to say that JADCO is on board.”

“An important part of the work we do at JADCO is to educate our sportsmen and women and also to raise awareness of the issues related to doping in sports; and I think this seminar will complement our efforts.”
Dr. Rachael Irving, who conceptualised the seminar, said:”I am happy to receive the full support and sanction of the Ministry and JADCO for the seminar. We both agree on its importance and I eagerly anticipate JADCO’s participation and welcoming the members of the various national anti-doping committees to the seminar on the 18th.”
The Executive Director of JADCO, Dr. Petrece Charles-Freeman said:”JADCO is happy to work with the University of the West Indies as stakeholder and partner in the long and difficult fight against doping in sports. It is our very strong belief that it is only through collaboration and cooperation that we will succeed.”
Also attending the meeting were Dr. Christopher Malcolm and Ambassador A. B. Stewart Stephenson the respective representatives of the UWI Faculty of Law and the Norman Manley Law School which are also involved in the staging of the seminar.
