Island Jam to be Staged from June 25-28

June 18, 2009

The Full Story

United States (US), radio and television personality, Michael Baisden, will stage ‘Island JAM Take-over 2009’, in Jamaica, from June 25 to June 28, at SuperClubs Grand Lido Braco, in Trelawny.
More than 650 listeners of the show in the United States, will be guests at hotels on the northcoast for several events to be staged during the four-day Jam sessions, which will be broadcast live from the hotel.
Due to the overwhelming interest and response to the annual event, accommodations at the Grand Lido Hotel have been long sold out, resulting in additional accommodation at other nearby hotel properties, including Breezes in Runaway Bay, Starfish, Trelawny and Bahia Principe, St. Ann.
Described as witty and humorous, Mr. Baisden, a popular syndicated radio host, will broadcast his daily radio talk show, ‘The Michael Baisden Show’, live from the resort. The four-hour broadcast airs week days across 70 syndicated affiliates in prime markets, reaching nearly five million listeners each week. The daily format includes entertainment, music, comedy and social commentary.
Jamaica was selected by Mr. Baisden after an earlier visit when he fell in love with the island. “Jamaicans have become our family,” according to Pamela Exum, Mr. Baisden’s business manager, and co-ordinator for this year’s event.
In an interview with JIS News, Ms. Exum explained that Jamaica was selected first, after visits to other Caribbean islands, and has since remained the venue of choice for Island Jam.
“Our visits are easier to organise,” she said, and commended the Jamaican people for their warm hospitality and caring spirit. “They are always willing to work with us and make our trip very special,” she said.
“A hectic schedule will include excursions to the many tourist attractions,” she explained, noting that some of the listeners have been to Jamaica and are again “looking forward to their return.”
Vice President of Marketing at SuperClubs, Zein Nakash, expressed her delight for the return of the annual ‘Island Jam’.
Activities will incorporate a mix of foreign and local persons, who will participate in stage shows, street parties, fashion shows and golf tournaments.
The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and Air Jamaica Limited are giving support to the event. According to Media Manager for the JTB in Miami, Diana Willis, “Michael Baisden is a huge supporter of Jamaica, and we are most pleased to assist in co-ordinating with SuperClubs, the live broadcast and activities which promise to make this event better than ever.”
