Investment Programme on Track – States PM

Prime Minister has stated that despite the damage caused by Hurricane Ivan in September, the determined efforts of the government have ensured that the country’s investment programme has not missed a beat. He said ground had been broken for the construction of the Iberostar Hotel in Montego Bay with the groundbreaking for the Oyster Bay Development in Trelawny scheduled to take place soon. Mr. Patterson noted that the construction of a 850-room hotel at Mammee Bay in St. Ann was also on schedule.
The Prime Minister was speaking on Thursday (Nov. 4) during a radio broadcast to the nation.
Prime Minister Patterson said that while the country was making considerable progress in a number of areas, there were still challenges which we must work hard to overcome. He said Jamaicans must persist in their efforts to reduce the unacceptable levels of crime and violence, adding that Operation Kingfish launched recently by the Security Forces has already shown some results. He lauded members of the security forces who are at the forefront of the struggle and risking their lives to protect the country.
Mr. Patterson said Jamaica continues to enjoy a high level of national unity and confidence which resulted in the successful social partnership agreement between the government and workers through their trade unions earlier this year. He said this unity has been sustained and has grown even stronger, as Jamaicans work together to recover from the ravages of Hurricane Ivan.
