Intensive One-Week Training for Court Administrators

June 3, 2005

The Full Story

Efforts by the Ministry of Justice to bring further improvement to the system of court administration in the country will be advanced with a one-week training programme, scheduled to begin on Monday, June 6, 2005 at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Hotel, Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
The seminar, which was designed specifically for the Court Administrators will address a range of topics, including Records and Management, Business Process Reeingineering, Access to Justice, and the Roles of the Courts, the Judiciary and Court Administrators in a democratic society. The seminar closes on Friday, June 10.
Commenting on the objective of this court administration training, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Carol Palmer, emphasised that the course is geared towards providing practical information on, and a broader understanding of court administration, so that the Court Administrators in the Resident Magistrates Courts can, in turn, provide better service to all who use the nation’s courts.
“It is another demonstration of the Justice Ministry’s unswerving efforts to enhance the administration of Justice in Jamaica,” Mrs. Palmer noted.
The training comes shortly on the recent charge given to court administrators by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Senator A.J. Nicholson, Q.C. to “better equip themselves to advance the Justice system from behind the scene.” The Minister was speaking at the Justice Training Institute’s 2005 graduation ceremony held in March this year.
The training programme will be conducted by two Canadian consultants, Dr. Carl Baar and Ms. Pamela Ryder-Lahey, both of whom enjoy international acclaim in court administration and management, and having over 55 years of experience between them.
