Infrastructure in March Pen Community to be Upgraded

The Government will be spending approximately $74.9 million for the upgrading of infrastructure in the March Pen community in St. Catherine.

Speaking at the Jamaica House press briefing, on September 12, Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, informed that Cabinet has given approval for Phase Two of the project.

She said the scope of work in the community, also known as Africa, would include the rehabilitation of several roadways; laying of pipelines; and the installation of fire hydrants.

Miss Falconer informed that the project falls under the Inner-city Basic Services for the Poor Project, which is being funded through a loan from the World Bank. Some 12 communities will benefit under the project.

She pointed out that the project is aimed at increasing access and improving water sanitation; solid waste collection systems; the availability of electricity, roads, drains as well as other community infrastructure.

Miss Falconer said the contract has been awarded to Construction Solutions Limited. It was approved by the National Contracts Commission and the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
