Industry and Tourism Minister to Visit Toronto

Minister of Industry and Tourism, Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, will visit Toronto, Canada from May 25 to 29 to participate in a series of tourism-related activities.
She will be accompanied by Director of Tourism, Paul Pennicook and Director General in the Ministry, Carole Guntley Brady.
While in Toronto, the Minister will take part in several events, including a trade luncheon organized by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) Canada office at the Delta Chelsea Hotel on May 26.
Later in the day, she will speak to Jamaicans on economic and other developments in the island at a community meeting hosted by Consul General, Vivia Betton at the Jamaican Canadian Centre.
Mrs. Ndomet Assamba will also meet with the board of the Jamaican Diaspora-Canada Foundation and is scheduled to attend the annual fundraising dinner of the Merl Grove Alumni Association, where she will be the guest speaker.
Regional Director for the JTB in Canada, Pat Samuels, said that the Minister’s visit was a very important one. “Canada supplies in excess of 100,000 visitors to Jamaica annually and is therefore a very important market for us,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Claudette Cameron-Stewart, President of the Merl Grove Alumni Association’s Toronto chapter, said she was ecstatic that the Industry and Tourism Minister had agreed to be the guest speaker at the association’s fundraising event slated for May 28.
“Minister Ndombet-Assamba is a past student of Merl Grove and we are very happy about that. We are looking forward to her visit. It was a dream of the late Barbara Martin, who was a student, teacher and principal of Merl Grove, that Minister Ndombet-Assamba would come to Toronto and address us at one of our fundraising events. So while I am very happy about the Minister’s visit, I am also sad that Mrs. Martin will not be around to witness it, ” she stated.
