Chairman of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC), Gary Peart, is inviting entrepreneurs involved in betting and gaming, to attend the inaugural Summit on May 29, at the Jamaica Conference Centre.

Speaking at a recent JIS ‘Think Tank’, Mr. Peart said the expansion and amendments to the industry provide great opportunity for growth in the economy and exciting opportunities for entrepreneurs.

‘We feel that this is an expanding industry in an economy that is being challenged in a lot of other areas…the more companies that spring up is the greater the revenue, which will be greater revenue for the consolidated fund and will redound to the benefit of every single Jamaican,” Mr. Peart said.

The Summit, which will be the first for Jamaica, replaces the horse racing summit held last year. It will seek to highlight other opportunities in the Gaming industry.

Mr. Peart told JIS News that the ultimate objective of the summit is to achieve the motto of the BGLC -‘Facilitate, Enable and Regulate’ – and to educate the stakeholders and wider public on developments in the industry.

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance & Planning, Hon. Horace Dalley, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Summit, which will also look at the recent amendments to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act.

Other areas that will be covered at the summit include compliance of the gaming lounges to the Proceeds of Crime Act, the responsible gaming and voluntary self-exclusion programme, casino gaming, the future of horseracing, sports betting, mobile betting and Information Technology upgrades to facilitate real time monitoring of licences.

Meanwhile, Mr. Peart is urging individuals to visit the BGLC website www.bglc.gov.jm for more information on the Summit and ongoing changes in the industry.

The summit is free to all industry stakeholders and interested members of the general public. It will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
