The Full Story

The Ministry of Water and Housing has entered into a contract with the University of Technology (UTech), for the preparation of a National Housing Policy.
“This revolutionary arrangement sees the coming together of a consortium of some of the brightest minds from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica; a mix of policy and technical strength that will result in a document of the highest quality,” Minister of Water and Housing, Dr. Horace Chang said, during his presentation in the 2008/09 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives, yesterday (June 4).
The Minister informed that the policy would address issues such as: housing supply and demand, affordability, financing, investment, access to land, squatting, social housing and public-private partnerships.
Work on the policy will start within the first week of June and will be undertaken over a one year period, during which time extensive regional, sectoral and professional consultations will be done to ensure the input of a wide-cross section of Jamaicans.
