Housing Agency Plans to begin 9,800 Shelter Solutions in 2010/11

Minister of Water and Housing, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, has said that during the 2010/11 financial year, the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) plans to start some 9,800 new shelter solutions.
“Over 50 per cent of these will be completed by the end of the year. Of the 9,800 solutions, 7,639 solutions will be Greenfield projects, and the remaining 2,202, Brownfield developments,” he said, during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives, today (May 18).
Greenfield projects refer to new virgin lands, while Brownfield developments refer to squatter settlements.
He told the House that the Greenfield projects will include: Portmore Villa 2B, Mineral Heights, Westmeade 1, Congreve Park, Luana Gardens, Belle Air 1, 2 and 3, Mount Edgecombe 5, Boscobel, Rhyne Park, Green Pond, and Shooters Hill.
Additionally, the Brownfield projects will include Flanker 2B, Lilliput Phase 3, Grange Pen, Shaw Park Heights Phase 2 and Roaring River.
Dr. Chang also informed that some 3,300 of the solutions will be developed through a Chinese funded project of US$71.2 million.
Meanwhile, the Minister said that the Ministry will also attempt to revive the Public Private Partnership Programme, otherwise known as the Joint Venture Programme, for housing development.
