LONDON — High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Anthony Johnson joined leaders of the Jamaican community in a Day of Prayer and Fasting at the Church of God of Prophecy at Winson Green, Birmingham, on Emancipation Day, August 1.
Mr. Johnson read the Emancipation Day Message from Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, and the incoming Diaspora Advisory Board Representative, Carol Cooper, gave a statement on behalf of the Jamaica Diaspora UK.
Host Pastor, Bishop Basil Richards said it was the second year that the Day of Prayer and Fasting was being held in the UK. The event originated in New York seven year ago.
The Diaspora Day of Prayer and Fasting has received the official endorsement of Jamaica’s leaders, including the Governor General, Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, the Consul General in New York and the Jamaican High Commissioner in the UK.
The day of fasting and prayer saw church leaders urging UK based Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica to join with their counterparts in the United States and Canada for a day of prayer and reflection for Jamaica.
Participating Ministers included Canon Eve Pitt, Pastor Peter Pennant, Pastor Karl Dennis, Reverend Laurel Woodstock and Minister Cleveland Perkins.
