High Commissioner Formally Welcomed to London

High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), His Excellency Anthony Johnson was formally welcomed to London on October 12, by other CARICOM High Commissioners and Her Majesty’s Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, Charles Grey.
Also welcoming Mr. Johnson and his wife, Mrs. Pamela Johnson, were members of the Jamaican community, at a reception, following his presentation of credentials and audience with her Majesty The Queen.
Words of congratulations and warm welcome were made by the Dean of the CARICOM High Commissioners, Laleshwar Singh; Marshal Dean Grey and Dr. Victor Paige, representing the Jamaican community.
All three wished the High Commissioner and his wife a happy and successful period in office.
High Commissioner Johnson told JIS News that during his audience with the Queen, he extended greetings from the people of Jamaica and discussed issues of mutual interest. He said the Queen recalled her first visit to Jamaica and that she was impressed by the beauty of the island .
Mr. Johnson, who arrived in London in May, is Jamaica’s 11th High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He previously served as Jamaican’s Ambassador to the United States in Washington, D.C.
He told the gathering at the reception that one of his areas of interest was improving Jamaica’s trade links.
All new Ambassadors and High Commissioners are escorted to Buckingham Palace by the Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps, where they present their letters of credence to The Queen.
