The Full Story

High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), His Excellency Seth George Ramocan, has expressed deep sadness at the passing of renowned Jamaican singer and actor, Clarence “Count Prince” Miller, who died in London today (August 16).

Speaking with his only son, Jean Pierre, the High Commissioner said: “Jamaica and the Diaspora have lost a true friend, advocate and promoter of Jamaica and Jamaican music. Your father was a wonderful, warm, proud and decent Jamaican who brought great joy to many with his music, acting and overall positive personality. He will be sorely missed.”

The High Commissioner noted that Count Prince Miller was a great supporter of the work of the High Commission over many years, as well as of the many Jamaican charitable groups and organisations which he supported with his time and talents.

He was conferred with the Order of Distinction (Officer Class) for his contribution to the Jamaican Entertainment Industry in 2007.

Count Prince Miller had been ailing for some time and High Commissioner Ramocan visited him twice recently while he was in hospital, once accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange.

His iconic song, ‘Mule Train’, has been popular both in the United Kingdom and Jamaica. In addition to singing, Count Prince Miller was an actor appearing in many films and television programmes, including the popular television series, ‘Desmond’s’.

Shortly before he fell ill, he completed work on a new film, ‘Jerk’, which will be shown at the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Festival during August.

Count Prince Miller was born in 1935 in the parish of St. Mary.
