Guardian Life Awards Scholarships to Students

Gabrielle Brown and Kevon Findley are this year’s recipients of Guardian Life Limited’s Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) scholarships.

Both students, who will be attending Campion College in September, have received a five-year scholarship valued at $50,000 per annum. The tenure of the scholarship is subject to the awardees maintaining at least a ‘B’ average each year.

The students were presented with their prizes, which included a gift basket as well as a plaque, during Guardian Life Limited’s GSAT luncheon at the entity’s offices in Kingston, on August 3.

President of Guardian Life, Eric Hosin, said company was pleased to host the7th annual GSAT luncheon, which “has been, over the years, something that we feel very passionate about, giving support to those who have done well and to just ‘big them up’,” he said.

Mr. Hosin  encouraged the children to keep focused, reminding them that now was their opportunity “to really shine and I’m personally very proud of each and every one of you and regardless of which school you are going to, and what grade you may have gotten, the fact that you have moved on is really something to be commended.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Rev. the Hon. Ronald Thwaites, implored the awardees to continue doing well. He congratulated Guardian Life “for the continuing gesture of making awards to help some of our better students…to pursue their secondary education."

Gabrielle and Kevon thanked their teachers and families for their support in ensuring their success in the examination. The awardees also expressed gratitude to Guardian Life for awarding them the scholarship.

Several outstanding scholarship applicants were also awarded $25,000 grants as well as gift baskets, during the function.

Guardian Life Limited’s GSAT Scholarship programme awards two children or legal wards (one boy and one girl), of policy holders. The scholarship is given to top performers who are not the recipients of any other scholarship. Funds under the programme are to underwrite the awardees’ costs at high school.
