Jamaica Cricket 2007 Limited is to benefit from a $2 billion allotment towards the completion of the World Cup Cricket 2007 Greenfield Stadium Project.
As contained in the 2006/2007 Estimates of Expenditure now before the House of Representatives, the amount will facilitate the completion of the multipurpose sports and entertainment facility in time for the hosting of the opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
Up to February 2007, several achievements had been made under the project inclusive of; rehabilitation of the water supply system to the venue, completion of the excavation and leveling of the play field, excavation for the North and South stands as well as the completion of the structure for the North stand seating bowl, and fencing for the site boundary.
The project is being funded by a loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China and is being built on some 48 hectares of land at Greenfield in Trelawny. It is envisioned that the facility will be more than a sports venue.
