The Full Story

The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange has said that the World Anti-Doping Agency is pleased with the operations of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission.

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission executes the national anti-doping in sports programme.

Minister Grange made the revelation this afternoon (Thursday) after meeting with a delegation from WADA.

Minister Grange said:

“WADA has given us a clean bill of health. Of course, there are little areas that have to be tweaked. There are some matters that need to be clarified as to the relationship between the Board (of JADCO) and the Executive Director as well as the Minister.

It’s important that we observe best practices and I’m really happy that we were able to sit with WADA and to have a greater understanding and have WADA indicate that we are compliant.”

WADA’s Director of Standards and Harmonisation, Tim Ricketts, led the delegation that met with Minister Grange.

He praised JADCO:

“WADA’s present in Jamaica to meet also with JADCO to look at the postoperations of the partnership that JADCO had with Canada. And we’re very pleased with the outcomes of that partnership and where JADCO is in terms of delivering efective anti-doping programmes.”

The Chairman of the JADCO Board, Alexander Williams, said he was pleased by WADA’s assessment which, he says, confirms that JADCO was “well on track to be one of the best national anti-doping organisations in the world.”
