March 28, 2008

The Full Story

During the 2008/09 financial year, the Government will be taking decisive steps to diversify the country’s energy resources.
This was stated today (March 27) by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, during his Throne Speech in Parliament, to mark the beginning of the new legislative year, which commences on April 1.
Pointing to efforts that would be made in this regard, the Governor-General said the Government would make greater use of renewable energy, including bio-fuels, which offer the added benefit of creating new jobs.
“The full realisation of these changes will, of necessity, take some time. In the meanwhile, therefore, the Government will be pursuing a number of initiatives to intensify energy efficiency and conservation efforts,” Sir Kenneth said.
“Energy is a precious and expensive commodity. Containing our energy consumption is not an option. It is a national imperative,” the Governor-General emphasised.
