Gov’t Engages Consulting Firm for Highway 2000 Project

The Government has engaged Stanley Consultants Incorporated as its representative of the Highway 2000 project.

Cabinet, at its sitting earlier this week, approved the award of a US$2.5 million contract to the international engineering consultants. The company will become the National Road Operating and Constructing Company’s (NROCC) technical advisor on all specialist areas of engineering for the project, with services including, but not limited to: review of designs and construction programmes; data reports and agreements submitted by the developer, contractors and others.

“They will also deal with due diligence, land acquisition and relocation; advice on budgets, procurement of services and goods, and the environment, health, safety and security issues,” said Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, at on June 13 Jamaica House press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister.

She said that the contract period is 42 months.

Stanley Consultants Incorporated is a worldwide provider of engineering, environmental, and construction services. The company has successfully completed more than 23,000 engagements in all 50 American states, and in 98 countries, since 1913.

NROCC is a wholly owned Government company formed under the Companies Act, and has responsibility for ensuring the implementation of Highway 2000.

The project involves the construction of a multi-lane tolled highway from Kingston to Montego Bay and a spur from Bushy Park to Ocho Rios. The total length of the project is approximately 230 kilometres.
